S1E4 - Birthday Suit

So this week's adventure starts out with Kris getting a phone call from Michele who is a Producer at Playboy Magazine asking if Kim would be available to pose for their celebrity issue. Kris drives on over to Dash... This reminds me, I ordered my "Calabasas" hat from Kanye's webstore like a month ago and still haven't gotten it, where the fuck is my hat Ye? ...I apologize for the interruption, so Kris arrives at the store and talks with Kim about posing for Playboy and claims that Kim wouldn't need to take anything off for the shoot. Kim seems more than a bit skeptical.

Kim talks about how she has to be careful about her perception after the sex tape scandal, but Kris claims that this would be an amazing opportunity. Kris claims yet again that Kim wouldn't have to take any of her clothes off. After the opening credits, Kim sits down with Kris, Khloé, Kourtney, and Rob to tell them that she's considering doing the photoshoot. They bring up Bruce's opinion and Kim admits that Bruce was on the cover of Playgirl.

Well that is very '80s! Do the guys get fully naked in Playgirl? I was always under the impression that it was much more "soft" with just implied nudity. I also find it strange that it says Entertainment for Women, I always assumed their main audience was gay men for some reason. Kris claims that Bruce wasn't posing nude in the magazine that he was just in it for the articles? I mean you can use the "I'm just reading it for the articles" defense if you're caught reading an adult magazine, not so much if you're posing for one. Bruce comes in an is surprisingly supportive and basically just tells Kim to think before making any decisions. Kourtney however claims that she should pose for Penthouse and says "do it with class, but undress that ass" Kris is working at Smooch (the store with the world's cutest name" and Kim shows up to let her know that she's decided to do playboy as long as it's in her contract that she absolutely will not be nude. Kris and Bruce have a big fight in the kitchen about Kim being in Playboy. Bruce is going to take Kim to the gym to assist her with her workout routine. Bruce, Rob, and Kim take this seriously, Khloé and Kourtney? not so much.

They say that Bruce taking his workouts way too seriously so they decide to mess with him. Two weeks later it's time for Kim's Playboy shoot. Kris admits that she's always dreamed of posing in Playboy. Kim begins her shoot looking very sexy in lingerie when quite predictably the photographer tries to get Kim to take her top off. Kim is not at all pleased with this and complains to Kris about it. Kim is reviewing the photos with her sisters back at home and Rob asks if he can look and Kim says no. Kim is sick of Kris suggesting that she take her clothes off so she challenges Kris to do a naked photoshoot herself. The next day, Kim is getting ready for Kris' photoshoot with some very fitting underwear.

In fairness, Kris goes through the photoshoot with a smile on her face and afterward said that she had a great time, I guess that plan backfired on Kim. Later Kris calls Kim up and informs her that Hugh Heffner wants to meet them at the Playboy Mansion. They arrive and Kris tries to get Kim to steal a bar of soap from the bathroom as "a souvenir" stay classy Kris! I wish I had 1% of the confidence that Hef has, he casually strolls out in his trademark robe and when Kris asks him if Kim would have to get nude he just say "oh yes". Hef tells Kim that back in 1953 when he started the magazine that he had Marilyn Monroe on the first cover as well as being the first Playmate of the Month, so Kim feels a bit better about everything. Bruce, Rob, and Brandon go golfing and Rob informs Bruce that Kim got a call from Playboy saying that they wanted to see more from her. Bruce asks how Rob feels about this, and Rob says that he supports Kim in everything that she does. Kim covers herself with a ton of fake diamond necklaces and says that she feels totally comfortable in the nude as long as she's draped in diamonds and pearls. Kim and I have that in common.Khloé and Kourtney are back home making fun of how Kim always poses. Cut to Kim posing exactly like they described.

Kim is happy about how the shoot turned out and the professionalism of the Playboy staff. Kim has a surprise for everyone. It turns out to be a huge poster sized print of Kris' nude photoshoot! Bruce seems to enjoy it and takes it (along with Kris) to the bedroom to "see how it works".

This episode felt a little bit Kim heavy to me, but I suppose that's normal for the first season where the other family members weren't really household names yet. I still would like to see more Khloé as she's my favorite. Overall not too much good or bad happened in this episode. Kim said she wasn't going to pose nude. Then Kim posed nude. 5/10

Thankfully the next episode is the one where Khloé gets busted for DUI, looking forward to it!
