S1E1 - I'm Watching You
Hello everyone! I like reading blogs about other reality shows I watch, so I decided to make one for Keeping Up With The Kardashians! I honestly love this show, I never bothered watching it until a few years back when I happened to see it on a flight from LA to Boston, and I've enjoyed it ever since.
The pilot episode starts out with Kris mentioning that Kim "has a little junk in the trunk". Funny in retrospect seeing as she now has probably the most famous butt in the world. Next we get a little segment where various family members saw who they are and a little bit about themselves. Some family members have pretty much stayed the same since 10 years ago:
While others have had some minor life changes since then:
Kim has an iconic line "There's a lot of baggage that comes with us, but it's like Louis Vuitton baggage, you always want it!" I love the old full opening song. Today Kris and Bruce are planning a anniversary party because they've been married for 16 years. It's very strange looking back and seeing them still happily married. I also think it's odd in retrospect how seemingly "normal" their house looks. I had forgotten that Kris' old house looked like a pretty standard upper-middle class home instead of the super mansions that most of the Kardashians live in now.
Kim seems genuinely excited to be asked to be on the Tyra Banks show, but is nervous because Tyra will definitely ask about the sex tape.
Kourtney and Scott are out to dinner and Kourney orders something called "butterfish" Scott Disick looks unrecognizable ten years ago compared to today.
Cut to the next day where Kim, Khloé, and Kourtney are working/hanging out at DASH with Kris, and Kris drops the bombshell that she knows that Scott is cheating on Kourtney. Meanwhile Bruce is getting a haircut and lamenting his life with a ton of daughters.
In preparation for the party Kris and Kourtney go off to wine tasting to make their selections for the party, but then end up switching to hard liquor instead. As the party begins everyone is there and wondering where the hell Kris and Kourtney are. It's nice to see Rob back when he was in shape and clearly happier.
Probably the best part is when Kris and Kourtney show up to the party and can barely talk straight, so Khloé immediately calls them out on being drunk. It is straight up bizarre to see Kendall and Kylie as little kids!!! Kim shows up to the party wearing Khloé's dress for some reason. Kim apparently bought Bruce and Kris a stripper pole because that's apparently a normal anniversary gift to give to your mom and step-dad for her. An 8 year old Kylie Jenner ends up showing a VERY disturbing level of pole dancing abilty.
After Bruce shows up and carries Kylie away, he gives a very sweet little toast about his marriage to Kris. Kris pulls Scott aside and starts grilling him about his relationship with Kourtney. Kris feels that Scott is too young for Kourtney despite the fact that he's only 4 years younger which is generally no big deal. It's funny too to see how mistrustful Kris is of Scott with how close they are now. 8 year old Kylie and 10 year old Kendall then proceed to act as bartenders, Kris wasn't really feeling that at least. Kris tells everyone except Kourtney that CiCi's friend was seeing Scott and they're all mad at her for not telling anyone.
Kim flies off to New York City to be on the Tyra Banks show. Kim is feeling super nervous about the interview and just wants it to be over. Back in Calabasas, Kris tells Kourtney that CiCi's friend had dated Scott, Kourtney says that she knows all about that and that it had happened before she was together with Scott. Kris feels bad and wants to apologize to Scott. Then it cuts to Kim after the interview she's relieved to not have to talk any further about the sex tape and goes for a bit of retail therapy to soothe her nerves. Kim flies back to California and reports that Tyra was very nice and tried to make her feel as comfortable as possible. A group hug between Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé ends the episode.
I'd rate this episode a 6 out of 10, I would have given it a 5 as nothing much actually happend and it was mainly an episode to introduce viewers to the family, but the "Coming this season on KUWTK" section at the end shows a bunch of stuff coming this season that would really draw a viewer in (bikini photo shoot that Bruce doesn't like, FBI showing up, etc)
